At this time the Bahamas has signed both a Tax Information Exchange Agreement and a Mutual Assistance Treaty with the United States. However, the Bahamas is not a participant in the European Union Savings Directive. As such, the Bahamas does not offer a particularly high level of privacy for American citizens. Furthermore, by agreeing to exchange information as part of a Tax Information Exchange Agreement and by signing a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, the Bahamas has opened itself up to questions about its commitment to protecting the privacy of its foreign investors.
